Carboxymethyl Cellulose
Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) has important applications in oil drilling. Here are some of its main uses:
1. Reducing filtration loss and cake thickness: CMC can significantly reduce filtration loss in low-solids and solids-free drilling fluids and thin the cake.
2. Enhancing mud stability: CMC can form a stable mud suspension system that maintains good stability even at high temperatures.
3. Preventing mud contamination: CMC is resistant to contamination by various soluble salts, thus effectively preventing mud contamination during drilling.
4. Improving drilling efficiency: CMC can form a thin, hard, low-permeability filter cake on the wellbore, thereby reducing water loss and improving drilling efficiency.
5. Preventing mold growth: CMC-containing mud is rarely affected by mold, therefore there is no need to maintain a high pH or use preservatives.
Generally speaking, the application of CMC in oil drilling mainly improves drilling results by enhancing mud properties, increasing drilling efficiency, and reducing mud contamination.
