What affects the efficiency of Cationic Polyacrylamide?

The performance of CPAM is influenced by product characteristics, water conditions, operation parameters, and solution quality.Below are the key factors that directly determine flocculation and dewatering efficiency.

1.Product Itself

Ionic degree:Must match sludge organic content;wrong ionic type leads to poor flocculation.

Molecular weight:Too low→weak flocs;too high→sticky flocs,slow dewatering.

Solubility:Incomplete dissolution causes agglomeration and low efficiency.

Residual monomer&purity:Impurities may reduce stability.

2.Wastewater&Sludge Properties

pH value:Optimal range is pH 4–8;strong acid/alkali reduces charge effect.

Organic content:High organics require higher ionic degree.

Temperature:Low temperature slows reaction;high temperature degrades polymer.

Ion concentration:High hardness(Ca²⁺,Mg²⁺)or salinity may interfere with charge neutralization.

3.Dissolution&Dosing Conditions

Dissolution concentration:Usually 0.1%–0.3%;too high causes clumping.

Stirring speed:Excessively high shear breaks molecular chains→efficiency drops sharply.

Dissolution time:Insufficient time→incomplete dissolution;too long→degradation.

Dosing point&mixing speed:Rapid mixing for dispersion, slow mixing for floc growth.

4.Dosage Control

Under-dosing:Insufficient charge neutralization,small loose flocs.

Over-dosing:Re-stabilization of colloids,high viscosity,poor dewatering.

5.External Environment

Storage conditions:Moisture, high temperature, sunlight cause caking and degradation.

Solution storage time:Prepared solution loses efficiency after 24–48 hours.

Contamination:Contact with iron, copper,or strong oxidants damages the polymer.

6.Combined Use with Other Chemicals

When used with PAC/ferric salts, dosage ratio significantly affects overall efficiency.

Incompatible chemicals may reduce flocculation effect.
