How temperature affects Polyanionic Cellulose performance?

Temperature directly influences the viscosity, stability, and functional effectiveness of Polyanionic Cellulose(PAC),with distinct behavior across different temperature ranges.
Low to moderate temperature(25°C–80°C)
Within this range,PAC solution viscosity gradually decreases as temperature rises, but the molecular structure remains intact.Performance is reversible:viscosity recovers when cooled.Fluid loss control, water retention, and suspension stability stay excellent.
High temperature(80°C–140°C)
Viscosity drops more noticeably, and mild thermal degradation may occur.High-purity,high-DS PAC still maintains basic functions, especially in salt-containing drilling fluids.Standard-grade PAC begins to lose efficiency.
Ultra-high temperature(>140°C)
Severe polymer chain degradation happens rapidly.Viscosity drops sharply, fluid loss control fails, and the stabilizing effect is largely lost.Even high-grade PAC requires thermal stabilizers to maintain performance.
Overall,PAC has better thermal stability than standard CMC,making it suitable for medium–high temperature environments such as deep well drilling and heated food processing.
