How to choose the right Polyanionic Cellulose grade?

Choosing the appropriate grade of Polyanionic Cellulose(PAC)depends mainly on your application scenario, required viscosity, fluid loss control,salt/thermal environment, and system compatibility.Below is a clear and practical selection guide for industrial and oilfield use.
1.Choose by Viscosity Grade
PAC‑LV(Low Viscosity)
For systems that need strong fluid loss control but little to no thickening, such as high‑density drilling fluids, completion fluids, cement grouts, and low‑viscosity food beverages.
PAC‑HV(High Viscosity)
For applications requiring both thickening and fluid loss control, such as low‑solid drilling muds, hole cleaning, tile adhesives, wall mortar, and daily chemical products.
PAC‑SL(Super Low Viscosity)
For ultra‑high‑density drilling fluids where viscosity increase must be minimized.
2.Choose by Working Environment
Freshwater systems:Standard PAC grades are sufficient.
Saltwater/seawater/high calcium:Select high‑DS,salt‑resistant PAC for stable performance.
High‑temperature deep wells:Use HTHP‑grade PAC with improved thermal stability.
3.Choose by Industry Application
Oil drilling:Follow API standards, select LV/HV based on mud density and rheology demands.
Construction:Medium to high viscosity for water retention and anti‑sagging.
Food industry:Food‑grade PAC(E466)with certified purity and safety.
Ceramics&coatings:Medium viscosity for suspension and glaze stability.
4.Choose by Dosage and Cost
Higher‑performance grades often allow lower dosage, improving overall economy.
For cost‑sensitive general applications, standard industrial PAC is more suitable.
In short:select LV for fluid loss only,HV for thickening+fluid loss, and special grades for high‑salt, high‑temperature,or food‑grade environments.
