How to dissolve Nonionic Polyacrylamide correctly?

Correct dissolution of Nonionic Polyacrylamide(NPAM)ensures full solubility, stable viscosity, and effective flocculation performance.Improper operation easily causes agglomeration, incomplete dissolution,or molecular chain breakage.
1.Water conditions
Use clean tap water or clean fresh water;avoid acidic, alkaline, high‑salt,or sewage to prevent premature reaction.
Water temperature:5–30°C is ideal.Do not use hot water above 45°C to avoid polymer degradation.
2.Concentration control
Recommended dissolution concentration:0.1%–0.3%(1–3 g NPAM per liter of water).
Higher concentrations lead to high viscosity, difficult flow, and easy agglomeration.
3.Dissolution steps
Add clean water to the dissolving tank first, and start the stirrer.
Slowly and evenly sprinkle NPAM powder into the water surface vortex area.
Do not pour all at once, otherwise it will form large lumps that are hard to dissolve.
Maintain stirring speed at 100–300 rpm;avoid high-speed shearing that breaks polymer chains.
Stir continuously for 40–90 minutes until completely transparent and uniform, with no visible particles.
4.Stirring requirements
Use low‑shear stirrers(paddle,frame,or propeller type).
Avoid high-speed pumps or pulpers that can damage long molecular chains.
5.Usage time of solution
Prepared NPAM aqueous solution should be used up within 24–48 hours.
Prolonged storage causes viscosity reduction, microbial growth, and performance loss.
6.Common mistakes to avoid
Adding water to NPAM powder(must add powder to water).
Dumping too fast,resulting in"fish eyes"agglomeration.
High-temperature dissolution.
Excessively fast stirring or long‑term strong shearing.
